Rain

"Rain Painting" is a series of work that recorded raindrops. From fine foggy rain to violent shower, every rain has its own character.

In order to fix their liquid ephemeral image, Eizo SAKATA made out an elaborated process : he puts the canvas directly under the rain at a certain moment. And he brings it back inside, wipes out the raindrops one by one with great care. Nothing is neither added nor changed.

This approach similar to his "Kiss Collecting" comes to his the idea from familiar view of spots on street when the rain begin to fall.

Therefore it is rain that draws a picture. In this way, the artist keeps on the collaboration with the nature, which he has already begun in the "works insitu", for which he worked in forest, on field, etc.

The unique significant intentional intervention at the part of artist is a choice of the colour. Thereby the image of raindrops falling on the earth looks like a sky full of the stars. So to say, these small squares is nothing less than a open window through which you may perceive the splendor of the cosmos.

Le tableau de pluie" est une série de toile qui ont enregistré les gouttes de pluie. De la pluie fine brumeuse à líorage violent, chaque pluie a son visage unique.

Afin de fixer leur image liquide et éphémère, Eizo SAKATA a élaboré un procédé : il pose la toile directement sous la pluie à un moment donné, puis il retire, et ensuite traite goutte par goutte. Rien n'y est ajouté ni modifié.

Cette démarche très proche de sa collecte de baisers lui est venue au travers des dessins familiers que l'on voit sur les trottoirs lorsqu'il commence à pleuvoir.

C'est donc la pluie qui dessine. Ainsi l'artiste continue la collaboration avec la nature qu'il a commencée déjà dans la série des travaux in situ, pour laquelle il travaillait dans la forêt, dans les champs, etc.

La seule intervention significative de la part de l'artiste est un choix de couleurs, et celui-ci est loin d'être innocent. Ainsi l'image de la pluie tombée sur la terre ressemble au ciel étoilé. En fait ces petits carrés de quelques centimètres ne sont rien moins quíune fenêtre ouverte par laquelle on pourrait apercevoir la splendeur du cosmos.

「雨の絵」のシリーズは、空から降ってきた雨粒をそのままキャンバスに記録したものです。霧のように細かい雨から荒々しい雷雨まで、各々の雨にはその持ち味があります。

　雨の流れ行くかりそめの姿をとどめるため、何度も実験をしてプロセスが練られました。実際、雨の降る日のある特定の時間に、キャンバスは雨にさらされ、そしてそれを屋内に運び戻された後、雨が一滴一滴ごとに処理されて行きます。加えたり除去されるものは何もなく、降った雨の姿を忠実に再現することが試まれます。

　このアプローチは「キス集め」のプロジェクトに類似したものですが、着想は雨の降り始めに舗道に描かれる、ありきたりの雨の模様の瞬間的な美しさによっています。

　すなわち絵を描くのは雨であり、アーティストたる僕はそれを補助するにすぎません。これは既に数年前から続けている、森や川や畑でのその場で見つけた素材を使った、自然の中でのインスタレーションをより発展させたものと言えるでしょう。

　主役の雨に対し、僕の側の唯一の重要な主体的行為は、色の選択です。その結果空から降り落ちた雨粒の跡は夜空の星を見上げたような錯覚を与えます。つまりこられの小さな四角いキャンバスは、宇宙の素晴しさに開かれた窓にほかならなりません。

I began trial on canvas from 1998 and developed an appropriate processus around the year of 2000.

Recent years I keep on doing on paper associating with satelite photo.

霧雨から雷雨まで、雨の跡をキャンバスにとどめたシリーズです。

1998年からキャンバスで実験を始め2000年頃にプロセスができました。

近年は衛星写真をコンバインしています
