Eizo SAKATA - One man show at City Museum of Santo, Shiga-ken, Japan

The museum is located at a small village, Santo, in the country at the foot of Mt. IBUKI , I made one man show on the subject of "Collaboration with the Nature" (from 20 Nov. to 5 Dec. 2004). The exhibition is preceded by 2 weeks residence in Santo. Staying in a settled camping car, I made a series of sculpture in bamboo when it was fine, "rain painting" when it rained, and "aburidashi drawing" between the times. Besides I held a workshop of "aburidashi" at villadge kindergarten.

Therefore, the exhibition consists of works brought from France and those realized on the place. There were "Aburidashi drawings" in main exhibition hall, "rain paintings" in the corridor, pictures of "work in the nature" at lounge, and bamboo sculptures in the front of the museum. Besides a big canvas painting on Alice in Wonderland is shown at the entrance, though it doesn't have a close relation to the theme.

As for bamboo sculptures, bamboos were newly cut from city wood. Bamboo grows straight. In japan we say "straitforward like bamboo". I am not one of these, I cut bamboos randomly and constructed complex shapes intendedly with cut out pieces . Therefore I called them "Tower of Babel". They are put in front of the museum.
